Notable Events Related to Drug Use in Livermore
The dangerous drug fentanyl has been an increasing problem throughout the United States, and Livermore is no exception. The city made headlines in November 2022 when a 22-year-old resident was arrested in connection with his toddler's death after the child was found with fentanyl in her system. The man, who was supposed to be caring for the child at the time, is an admitted fentanyl addict. When paramedics arrived, they found the child unresponsive, and she later died at the hospital. An autopsy report revealed the presence of fentanyl in her blood at the time of her death.
Life and People in Livermore
A Livermore mother has taken to activism in response to her son's ongoing battle with drugs. The move towards inciting change began when she found a photo of her son passed out on the BART on a Facebook group page, accompanied by comments such as, "what a useless human being." While she had been quiet about his struggles with sobriety in the past, this day, she commented, "that is my son," and was surprised to see how the conversation changed. Since that fateful day, Jacqui Berlinn has arranged a "Stop Fentanyl Death" protest against drug dealers and founded the organization Mothers Against Drug Deaths.
