A 5 Panel Drug Test is a urine drug test that tests for commonly used drugs like marijuana, cocaine, basic opiates including codeine, morphine, and heroin, phencyclidine (PCP), and amphetamines including methamphetamine. THC can be excluded, and alcohol, nicotine, ecstasy, oxycodone, or hydrocodone can be added. You can choose between a rapid 5 panel drug test or a lab test. This testing panel originated at the start of the modern drug testing era, in the 1980's. However, this panel test does not detect many of the drugs that are commonly used today. Specimens are sent to a SAMHSA certified laboratory for analysis, and results are reviewed by our Medical Review Officer, a licensed physician. Test results take about one business day for negatives, and three to five business days to confirm non-negatives.
5 Panel Testing Options
Rapid 5 Panel Drug Test
Same as the 5 panel, but with rapid results for negative screens. Non-negatives still get sent off to the lab for confirmation testing.
5 Panel Drug Test Alcohol
This option adds a look back for alcohol consumption over a short 12 hour period.
5 Panel Plus EtG Alcohol
This option adds an extended 3 day EtG look back for the presence of alcohol or its metabolites.
5 Panel Drug Test without THC
Some employers, especially in states where marijuana is legal, don't feel it's right to include THC in their employment drug tests. This test is a standard 5 panel in every way except it excludes a screening for cannabinoids.
5 Panel Plus Expanded Opiates
Add a screening for widely abused drugs like expanded opiates like hyrdocodone and oxycodone, plus a screening for MDMA, which is also known as Molly or Ecstasy.
5 Panel Plus Nicotine
Some insurers or employers need to test for nicotine in addition to a basic 5 panel because of the risk that tobacco poses to their clients or employees.
Frequently Asked Questions about 5 Panel Drug Test
How Fast Are 5 panel Test Results Returned?expand_more
Health Street's technology allows our Medical Review Officers to review instant 5-panel urine drug tests in real-time. If the specimen provided is negative, a completed drug screening, reviewed and signed by an MRO, takes an hour or less. If you prefer the security of a lab and have more time, a negative 5-panel drug test will take at least one business day. Confirmation of non-negative rapid and standard tests can take up to an extra 3-5 business days.
How much does a 5 panel drug test cost?expand_more
The basic 5 panel test is $75. There are some optional drugs that can be included with this test that can increase the cost. The range is from $75-$189.
How far back does a 5 panel drug test go?expand_more
The detection time frame can vary based on several factors. Typically, "harder" drugs like cocaine exit the system faster, while "softer" drugs like marijuana tend to stay around for a while. Metabolism, frequency of use, and body fat percentage also play a role. Each drug has its own unique period of retention in the body, and each person metabolizes and gets rid of each drug differently. However, there are some general guidelines to follow. Other than THC, the drugs in the 5 panel test can be detected in someone's urine for up to 5-7 days. Marijuana, on the other hand, can last for up to a month, particularly for heavy users.
All times below are approximated
|Amphetamines||3-7 days||90 Days|
|Marijuana||30 Days||90 Days|
|Cocaine||3-7 days||90 Days|
|Methadone||3-7 days||90 Days|
|Opiates||3-7 days||90 Days|
Is Health Street's test the same as getting a 5 panel drug test at CVS, Walgreens, or Walmart?expand_more
No. At home drug tests that can be purchased in drug stores are not the same as the rapid drug tests or lab tests offered by Health Street. These drug store tests are a consumer version of a professional test. A standard 5 panel drug test that gets analyzed in one of our certified laboratories such as LabCorp or Quest Diagnostics is a professional test that employers use for pre employment drug testing or as part of a drug free workplace.
Can I use this test to comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) drug testing?expand_more
No. See our DOT Drug Test to comply with DOT regulations for safety-sensitive employees.
Does Health Street offer 5 panel tests that goes back further than a urine drug screening?expand_more
Yes. We offer a hair test for the same drugs of abuse. The hair screening method goes back 90 days. The 5 Panel Hair Test is a drug screen test for basic opiates, amphetamines and methamphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, and PCP, and automatically includes MDMA. You have the option of including hydrocodone and oxycodone.
