Notable Historical Events Related to Drug Abuse in Concord
In September 2020, Concord police, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) agents concluded a major investigation of drug activity in Concord that shut down the Sureno drug gang. The gang had taken control of a shopping center parking lot at 1500 Monument Blvd. in Concord, selling guns and drugs.
“Operation Boulevard Blues” began in April 2019 and ended with in the arrest of 15 gang members on federal drug and gun charges, and the seizure of approximately 10 pounds of methamphetamine, over 400 grams of heroin, over 2,000 grams of cocaine, and 900 fentanyl pills. The investigation also enabled police to solve four murders, including three in Concord and one in Antioch.
Government and Community Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Concord
The Monument Youth Drug and Alcohol Coalition (MYDAC) meets monthly to prevent access to alcohol and drugs. Meetings may be suspended or virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. MYDAC is part of the West County Alcohol, Marijuana, and prescription Drug Coalition (AMPD).
