The indictment included allegations that defendants laundered profits from the operation through local businesses, personal property, and commercial real estate in Olathe, KS as well as Kansas City, Lawrence, and surrounding areas. Laws Surrounding Substance Abuse in Olathe, KS
As with many states across the country, Olathe and the state of Kansas have witnessed an increased rate of substance abuse and drug-related deaths. To better combat this concern, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback passed House Bill 2217 in 2017 to expand access to the opioid overdose reversal drug Naloxone.
Under the newly established Kansas protocol, pharmacists must review current laws and dispensing guidelines prior to registering as a Naloxone distributor. Once a pharmacist is approved, they may distribute Naloxone to Olathe residents who are at risk of a drug overdose without the requirement of a prescription. Furthermore, the pharmacist must also provide instructions to the patient or family regarding the administration of the nasal spray or injectable form of Naloxone.
