Just one pill can cause permanent damage, overdose, or death, said Chief Bar.

In January of 2020 in Whittier, CA, a 16-year-old girl died from an accidental drug overdose. Witnesses saw two people pulling her out of a car, leaving her unresponsive on the ground. She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy showed that the girl died from a mix of fentanyl and cocaine.

Government Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Whittier, CA

The project’s goal is to address the opioid problem by reducing the number of deaths caused by opioid overdoses. This is done with the use of naloxone. Since October of 2018, over 601,000 units of naloxone were distributed by the NDP. Over 31,750 overdoses were reversed.

The California Public Health Standing Order for naloxone is available to administer or distribute for those that qualify. This includes first responders, police officers, fire departments, Veteran’s organizations, homeless programs, schools, community organizations, and religious entities.
