Local Initiatives to Curb Substance Abuse in La Habra, CA

The Solace Foundation of Orange County (SFOC) is a non-profit organization that works to provide community members with opioid overdose recognition and response. The Solace Foundation was created to help those who are at risk of deadly drug overdose in La Habra and across Orange County. As the first Naloxone distribution program in Orange County, the Solace Foundation works to expand access to the drug overdose reversal drug, Naloxone, as well as Naloxone administration training.

Following a recently introduced standing health order in California, individuals outside of emergency personnel are now allowed to possess and administer Naloxone in the event of an emergency. The Solace Foundation is using this to their advantage by providing critical members of the public with necessary training and skills to further prevent overdose in Orange County.

Notable Events Relating to Substance Abuse in La Habra, CA

In January 2021, La Habra resident Anthony Martinez pleaded guilty to a federal narcotics charge that was followed by a high speed chase. According to case details, Martinez received two boxes from an accomplice on July 25, 2019 that contained 75.2 pounds of cocaine. He then put the boxes in his vehicle and drove off. Local law enforcement located Martinez and pulled him over, when he quickly sped away, resulting in a high speed chase.

Martinez drove through oncoming traffic in an attempt to escape law enforcement but was later apprehended. In addition to the large amount of cocaine discovered in his vehicle, Martinez admitted to possessing an additional 132.6 pounds of cocaine stored in a local storage locker and 52.9 more pounds located in a personal duffel bag. Martinez and five other defendants currently await sentencing.
