Between 2017 and 2021, opioids took 90 lives in Tuscaloosa County. Prescription opioids pose a significant threat to Tuscaloosa. Between the years 2006 and 2020, annually, there were 109.4 opioid prescriptions for every 100 residents.

Major drug bust in Tuscaloosa: Police seized large amount of fentanyl

A woman from Tuscaloosa is facing ten felony charges after police searched her home and seized many drugs. They found 9 ounces of methamphetamine, 4 grams of cocaine, 4 grams of heroin, 2.5 grams of MDMA, and 1.5 pounds of marijuana in her house.

Most surprisingly, police found a staggering 25 grams of fentanyl. WANTF Capt. Brad Jones stated that such a large amount of fentanyl was somewhat shocking to find in one person’s home. Although fentanyl is not uncommon to discover in Tuscaloosa, only a couple of milligrams can be deadly.
