Government Efforts to Address Drug Problems in McCalla, AL

With the increase in opioid overdoses in McCalla and the state of Alabama, the state wants to disperse naloxone to as many residents as possible. Opioids slow down breathing and can stop breathing completely. Naloxone reverses these effects, preventing deaths from opioids. With more residents having access to naloxone, more lives can be saved.

McCalla, AL residents have access to naloxone since the state passed a standing order for distribution in 2017. The state offers online training for naloxone distribution for EMS, firefighters, and law enforcement officers.
