In October 2018, police arrested 21 individuals from Severna Park and the surrounding Anne Arundel County area for their roles in a local drug trafficking ring. Following an 8-month investigation, Anne Arundel police successfully seized 1.74 kilograms of fentanyl, ⅓ kilogram of heroin, ½ kilogram of cocaine, and 8.68 kilograms of xylazine. Law enforcement reported that the xylazine, a type of animal tranquilizer, was used to cut the heroin supply.
Law enforcement was able to tie one fatal drug overdose to the xylazine supply and believe up to seven more local overdoses were related to the drug organization. Police called the bust the largest in county history and viewed it as an enormous success considering Anne Arundel County has experienced an increasing amount of overdose deaths year over year. The organization's kingpin, Glenn Anthony Davis, and his 20 accomplices face numerous drug distribution-related offenses.
Local Initiatives to Curb Substance Abuse in Severna Park, MD
