Local initiatives to curb drug overdoses in Pueblo, CO

Pueblo County has been working on lowering the number of drug overdose fatalities with the help of multiple initiatives. One of them is the "Empower to Recover" traveling exhibit, which showcases the experiences of 15 residents affected by substance misuse and stigma. Additionally, the county offers a Community Education Series that includes Narcan training, discussions on the science of addiction, and topics such as the impact of opioid use disorder (OUD) in Pueblo, substance use during pregnancy, and parenting in recovery.

Pueblo County also focuses on safe medication disposal and provides multiple resources, including free disposal kiosks at local pharmacies and medical centers. The county promotes the Colorado Medication Take-Back Program for proper medication disposal. The county also focuses on educating the public about drug overdoses, emphasizing the importance of safe use, storage, and disposal of medications. Six people are facing federal charges after a drug bust

In January 2024, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado announced federal drug charges against six individuals in Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Based on the court records, between January 30, 2023, and October 2023, investigators from various federal and state agencies carried out nine undercover drug transactions, which led them to the seizure of heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine. On January 30, 2024, search warrants were executed at multiple locations, including a home in Pueblo, Colorado, where investigators discovered more than 4 kilograms of heroin.
