California is trending at the top of the list for the number of individuals that overdose each year in the state. In 2020, California had 5,502 deaths related to opioid overdose, and 3,946 of them involved fentanyl.

In the same year, almost fifteen million opioid prescriptions and more than fifteen thousand individuals ended up in the emergency department because of opioid overdose. The state is struggling and Ontario, which belongs to San Bernardino County, is following this trend.

Between 2018 and 2019, California had a 103 percent increase in opiate admissions in San Bernardino County. On the other hand, San Bernardino County experienced a decrease in admission related to other substances.

Local initiatives to curb drug abuse in Ontario, CA
