North Richland Hills falls is located in Tarrant County, which experienced a 30 percent increase in fatal overdoses connected to fentanyl in 2020. The county reported 123 deaths through November. Fentanyl became the number one drug threat in the county and the USA for everyone between 18 and 45 years. The number of Tarrant County drug deaths connected to fentanyl topped suicide, car accidents, and even COVID-19, according to the organization Families Against Fentanyl.

At least seven kids under the age of 17 in Tarrant County died because of fentanyl in 2021; the youngest was only 12-years-old. The Department of Justice announced $300 million in grants dedicated to treatment programs and abuse to curb the number of overdose deaths.

Thirty members of methamphetamine distribution ring charged in Tarrant County

In a major operation known as "Operation Ice Tank," law enforcement agencies took action in Tarrant County in October 2022. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) led the drug bust. Thirty suspects were charged for conspiracy to possess and distribute controlled substances. After the investigation, twenty-one suspects were arrested, five were released on bond, and four individuals remained at large. These individuals were thought to be connected to a methamphetamine distribution network operating in North Richland, Haltom City, and Fort Worth. The DEA's Dallas Field Division and local authorities seized evidence, including sixteen kilograms of methamphetamine, nine ounces of heroin, and nine firearms.
