Local Efforts to Curb Substance Abuse in Flower Mound, TX
To help drug abuse among local teens throughout the community, the Flower Mound Police Department created the I.N. (Identify and Notify) the Know program. Through this initiative, officers focus on identifying local at-risk teens that are currently using or experimenting with dangerous drugs such as heroin. Rather than charging the teens as drug offenders or placing them in a juvenile detention center, the officers attempt to contact their family as well as offer necessary resources and support to get the teens back on the right path.
Flower Mound law enforcement knows firsthand that when fellow friends and classmates of a teen become aware of their substance abuse, many do not speak up in worry of getting the person in trouble. Through the I.N. the Know initiative, individuals can submit confidential tips and information regarding a teen struggling with substance abuse without concern.

In January 2021, the Dallas Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) announced they conducted the largest methamphetamine bust ever recorded in Denton County. According to law enforcement, an 18-wheeler was stopped outside of Flower Mound on Interstate 35 in Denton County.
