Local initiatives to curb substance abuse in Glendale, AZ

The Glendale Community College District has implemented a program and policies that prevent employee and student possession, distribution, or abuse of substances. Federal funding and financial assistance are withheld from colleges in the state that do not uphold programs to prevent substance abuse among students and faculty.

In 2020, The Rise Up! Glendale Coalition began because locals realized no substance abuse prevention efforts were in place. This Coalition tries to prevent substance abuse among young people and provide them with life skills to reach their full potential. They also work on reducing youth marijuana, alcohol, prescription drug use, and abuse in Glendale.

They cooperate with law enforcement, education, healthcare, and community-based organizations to reduce the drug demand, spread awareness and education, organize drug take-back events, dispose of Naloxone and Deterra, and do community surveys and assessments of community needs. They also manage in-school resiliency and prevention education.
