Peoria, AZ: Drug abuse trends

Opioid deaths in Peoria, which belongs to Maricopa County, have been increasing over the years. Between 2019 and 2021, more than two-thirds of fatal overdoses involved opioids in Maricopa County.

Drug overdose deaths affect men in the area at a disproportional rate of about 2.5 times the rate of female overdose deaths. In 2020, almost all age groups were affected by higher death rates caused by drug overdose. In 2021, people aged 25 and older saw still increasing overdose death rates.

Another key finding is that more than 80 percent of all overdoses in Maricopa County involve more than one drug. The presence of fentanyl in fatal overdoses is also increasing at an alarming rate. Other drugs are commonly laced with fentanyl, unbeknownst to the person using the drugs. This leads to an influx of deadly overdoses in Maricopa County and throughout the state and country.

Other than the longer wait at the facility, it has been a very good experience. I really appreciated all of the updates.
