Inside the home, police discovered a large stockpile of drugs consisting of 24,000 ecstasy pills, a little under four ounces of cocaine, a stolen firearm, and roughly $23,000 in cash. Laws and Regulations Relating to Substance Abuse in College Station, TX
In 2019, the Texas legislature enacted new laws that changed the way doctors can prescribe opioids to patients. As a part of House Bill 3284, health professionals who prescribe opioid, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, and carisoprodol must now access the state’s prescription monitoring program, PMP Aware, before distributing a script.
This legislature allows physicians, pharmacists, and government officials to better monitor potential substance abusers and detect illegal “doctor shopping” across the state. Furthermore, under House Bill 2174, opioid prescriptions for the treatment of acute pain may not exceed a 10-day supply and cannot include any refills. For those undergoing chronic pain management, cancer care, and end-of-life care, these limitations do not apply.
