In 2011, a former Arapahoe County Sheriff was arrested for trafficking methamphetamine.
Sheriff Sullivan was elected Arapahoe County Sheriff for 19 years. In 2001, he was recognized by the National Sheriff Association as “Sheriff of the Year.” After retiring in 2002, he was the director of safety and security for Cherry Creek Schools.

During an investigation in mid-November 2011, information was provided to law enforcement by informants that connected Sullivan to the distribution of methamphetamine. Sullivan was arrested after a male informant said Sullivan agreed to meet him to provide him with drugs in exchange for sex.

It was also discovered that Sullivan posted bonds numerous times for suspects in drug cases who were being held at different facilities.

In 2007 and 2008, according to public records, Sullivan was an active participant in state and local methamphetamine task forces, developing a plan to deal with affliction caused by methamphetamine in the community.
