Cary, North Carolina: Drug abuse trends

Although North Carolina's overdose death rate is better than the national average, the number are still alarming. From 2018 to 2020, there was a 38 percent increase in fatal drug overdoses. On average, eight people die every day because of a drug overdose in North Carolina.

Most drug overdoses in Cary, NC involve opioids, and one of the most problematic and often abused drug is fentanyl. This opioid is very potent and often laced into other drugs like heroin or cocaine. People who struggle with drug addiction often take it without even knowing the drug they are using has fentanyl in it, and it often leads to accidental overdoses and deaths.

Police seized drugs worth $700,000 in Cary, Wake County

Wake County's police officers arrested four people after finding illicit drugs on a street worth $700,000. Police officers found a significant amount of methamphetamine, marijuana, and cocaine. They also seized $23,000 in cash.

Four people were charged with trafficking drugs by possession, conspiracy to traffic, maintaining a dwelling and possession with intent to sell, and distributing marijuana. All of them were booked in the Wake County Detention Center.
