Government Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Apex, NC and Wake County

In November of 2015, an organization called the Wake County Drug Overdose Prevention Coalition was formed. Groups and organizations in Apex and Wake County came together to respond to and prevent opioid and heroin-related overdoses in the county. The group is working toward more effectively preventing overdoses by combining resources. Together they focus on education, outreach, data analytics, recovery initiation and maintenance, syringe exchange, access to naloxone, and first responders.

Notable Historical Events Related to Drug Use in Apex, NC

Four people were arrested following a search warrant at a home in Apex, NC in 2016. The search warrant was executed after complaints of drug activity. The four people were found in possession of materials to make illegal drugs and methamphetamine. The four individuals face multiple charges including possession of precursors, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of methamphetamine.

In 2020, an Apex, NC man was one of 21 individuals arrest for their involvement in a large-scale drug ring. The drug ring funneled more than $1.5 million worth of drugs through college campuses around North Carolina. The investigation uncovered drug activity among several fraternal organizations at universities across the state.

Over the course of a few years, the drug ring distributed several hundred kilograms of cocaine, over 1,000 pounds of marijuana, and large amounts of other drugs to universities in the state.
