PATH Program Addresses Substance Abuse in Newton

In response to the current opioid crisis and substance abuse issues, the City of Newton has established a multi-disciplinary approach known as the PATH program. This is an acronym for "Prevention, Awareness, Treatment, and Hope." Participants include members of the city's health and human services, police and fire departments, drug court, Newton Public Schools, Newton Wellesley Hospital, the Newton City Council, and other community partners.

PATH, which was established in 2015, has made significant strides in improving drug prevention, awareness, and treatment programs and providing area residents with hope for the future. This includes holding a variety of prevention programs and community events as well as the development and implementation of a Naloxone training and distribution pilot program.
