Lynnwood, WA Drug Testing

What Are Drug Tests Used For?

Drug testing policies and procedures ensure the safety of businesses, children, customers, and the public. A drug test in Lynnwood is often used by employers, to ensure a drug-free workplace, to protect children in custody cases, and by attorneys in some court cases.

Employment

By implementing drug screening, Lynnwood employers can ensure safety in the workplace by reducing work-related accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Drug-free workplace policies also help employers hire reliable job candidates and increase productivity. Employers might also conduct drug tests randomly, following an accident, to comply with DOT regulations, or following an employee's treatment with prescription drugs after an operation or injury.

Court Mandates

Court-mandated drug testing can inform judges of any drug use before sentencing and setting bail as well as to ensure compliance with probation, work release, or parole.

Child Custody

A parent's substance abuse puts a child in danger. In the best interest of the child, drug testing in child custody cases ensures the child is entering a safe environment. An attorney or Child and Family Investigator may require a drug test in Lynnwood for a parent who abuses substances if that parent is requesting custody or visiting time with the child.

Washington State Laws Around Employment Drug Testing

Laws for drug testing in Lynnwood and Washington State allow employers to use pre-employment drug testing to make hiring decisions. However, beginning January 1, 2024, employers can no longer make hiring decisions based on positive results for nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites.

Workplace Accident Testing & Regulations

Washington workplace drug testing laws include WAC 357-37-200, which allows employers to drug test if the employee was injured or in an accident described in the employer's policy.

Can Employers Test for Marijuana Even Though It's Legal in Washington?

Lynnwood marijuana testing must comply with new state guidelines. Effective January 1, 2024, Washington marijuana laws will include SB 5123, prohibiting employers from refusing to hire someone for legally using marijuana while off-duty. According to the law, employers cannot make hiring decisions based on pre-employment drug tests positive for nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites in urine, hair, blood, or other bodily fluids. The new law does not apply to workers in safety-sensitive, airline and aerospace, some emergency medical, and some federal government positions.

The staff at the facility on 196th Street in Lynwood, WA where I went for my pre-employment drug screen were great. Helpful friendly and efficient. Very disappointed in how long it took for the lab to get the sample, finish the analysis and send back the reults.
