Local initiatives to curb drug abuse in Knoxville, TN

Each year, The Knox Substance Abuse Action Team invites Knox County and the Knoxville community to meet and remember those who have died due to drug overdose. This event supports families who have lost their loved ones and educates all participants about Narcan, a drug that can reverse overdose. People also can take home a Narcan kit. KSAAT is dedicated to reducing substance abuse in Knox County. They are a part of a global movement for compassion, change, and understanding.

Additionally, those who lost their loved ones can also attend monthly support group meetings at the Knoxville Safety Complex.

Notable Events Related to Drug Use in Knoxville, TN

Three individuals are facing federal drug and firearm-related charges after Knoxville Police seized a large amount of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and firearms during two separate searches in the Asheville Highway area in July 2024. The searches, conducted by the Knoxville Police Department's Organized Crime Unit, were part of ongoing investigations into drug trafficking.

Officers recovered five handguns, three of which were stolen, along with more than $18,000 in cash, nearly a pound of fentanyl, almost two pounds of crystal meth, and drug manufacturing materials, including cutting agents, masks, bags, and a hydraulic press. All three suspects have been taken into federal custody on multiple charges related to drug trafficking and firearms offenses. Knoxville Police thanked the Knox County Sheriff's Office and the ATF for their support in the investigation.
