Sevier County CARES (Coalition for Addiction Recovery & Education Services) is a program that combines the efforts of law enforcement, judicial services, local government, recovery centers, the school board, and others to help curb the impacts of substance abuse in Sevierville and the rest of Sevier County. While recreational marijuana is legal in many states, in Tennessee, possession of the drug is still considered a crime. There are fewer illegal drugs on the streets of Sevierville following the condemnation of a known “drug house” located on Murphy Road, and the arrest of seven people. An execution of a search warrant on the location led to the confiscation of a variety of illegal drugs, including heroin, gabapentin (an anti-convulsant medication), and marijuana. The individuals arrested ranged in age from 29 to 50, and charges included possession of drug paraphernalia, drug possession, and one outstanding VOP warrant. Following an inspection of the home, the City of Sevierville Codes Enforcement Departmentalso determined that the home was “unfit for human occupancy or use.”
