Due to the Texas-Mexico border, methamphetamine is still one of Texas’s most commonly used drugs. However, the number of methamphetamine items seized by authorities has grown over the years. In 2005, it was about 21 percent identified by DEA laboratories; in 2019, the number rose to 50 percent.

Another issue in Texas is heroin. Its presence has risen significantly. Heroin is often cut with fentanyl, one of the most potent opioids in the USA. Fatal overdoses caused by fentanyl have been increasing through the years with no sign of getting better. Fentanyl is popular among people who struggle with drug abuse because it is powerful and easy to get. Often, other substances are laced with fentanyl without the knowledge of the person using the drugs.

$45 million of methamphetamine seized by DEA in Denton County

The DEA seized about 1,930 pounds of methamphetamine worth 45 million dollars. The special agent said they stopped a truck in Denton County and found 663 hidden packages stuffed with more than nineteen hundred pounds of methamphetamine.

So far, the police have refused to share any more details since the investigation is still ongoing, but they admitted they are unsure what the truck’s destination was and if they were heading to the county.

The DEA is proud since this is the largest drug bust ever in Denton County, and they are working on conducting additional arrests and getting the suspects indicted.
