This showed a small decrease of 13 percent in fatal opioid overdoses compared to the previous year.

Alcohol, methamphetamine, hallucinogens, and ecstasy are some of the most commonly abused drugs in the county. Palm Beach County experienced a significant increase in the misuse of methamphetamine, kratom, and Xylazine in 2020 and 2021. Xylazine is particularly concerning. It is a drug used by veterinarians, and Naloxone (an opioid overdose reversal medication) is not effective in reversing Xylazine overdoses.
