Initiatives to Help Curb Substance Abuse in Boynton Beach, FL
Palm Beach County officials announced in September 2022 that they would be expanding their county addiction recovery program to 12 additional counties across Florida. The program, titled Coordinated Opioid Recovery (CORE), was implemented by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2021 within Palm Beach County as a pilot program after the state hit its highest number of annual opioid deaths.
Palm Beach County's CORE program has between 400 and 500 patients receiving substance abuse care with the help of state-appointed physicians, psychiatrists, and addiction-specialized therapists. With broader program expansion, state officials hope to better tackle the ongoing concerns of opioids across the state and further reduce the number of overdose deaths in Boynton Beach.
