Auburn, Washington: Drug abuse trends

King County has seen a rise in drug overdoses each year since 2019. From 2019 to 2020, there was a 20 percent rise in drug overdoses in King County. From 2020 to 2021, there was a 39 percent increase in drug overdose deaths. Fentanyl was the leading cause of these fatalities, involved in 70 percent of all overdose deaths. King County averaged seventeen overdose deaths per week in 2022, with 710 overdose fatalities recorded up through mid-October. Although overdoses can affect any age group in Auburn, people in their mid-thirties or mid-fifties are most commonly affected.

Auburn police seized drugs, guns, and cash

A search warrant executed by detectives at an Auburn residence led to the discovery of a large number of illegal substances, firearms, and cash. Substances seized by authorities included 5,337 fentanyl pills, 22.9 grams of cocaine, 2 ounces of methamphetamine, and 22.5 grams of fentanyl powder. In addition to the large quantity of substances, two handguns, a rifle, and about $7,000 were found. The suspects were arrested. The detectives are currently investigating the source of the substances found at the residence.
