Specimens we can test for DNA

The easiest and most reliable way to obtain a DNA sample for paternity testing is to swab the inner cheeks of the alleged father and child or children. These skin cells are known as buccal cells, and they rub off easily onto cotton swabs and remain in place for analysis by our laboratory.

Other specimen samples, such as hair follicles, fingernails, and garments that might contain someone's DNA, can also be tested. An Alternative Specimen DNA Test is done by ordering one of our testing kits online and shipping the specimens back to us.

Legal DNA Tests vs. "Peace of Mind" At-Home Tests

A Legal Paternity Test is a court admissible lab testing service performed at an AABB accredited laboratory. Accurate results for DNA paternity testing with 99.99% confidence or greater take about a week.

When deciding which type of DNA test is right for you, consider first what you might do with the results. A legal paternity DNA test will hold up in court for such matters as child support or to change the name on a birth certificate. This test must be performed using strict chain of custody procedures. Our Auburn DNA testing technicians are trained to follow these guidelines so that the results will be legally admissible.

Auburn, Washington - DNA Testing

Establishing paternity in Auburn, WA

Establishing paternity is an important process for unmarried parents in Auburn, WA. They have two options for establishing paternity: voluntary or involuntary. If both parents are certain about the biological father and have no doubts, they can sign the Acknowledgement of Paternity (AOP) at the hospital, birthing clinic, or home with a midwife's assistance after the child's birth. The AOP should be signed and notarized, and it must be filed with the Center for Health Statistics. After this process is completed, the father's name can be added to the child's birth certificate.

Paternity establishment by court order is another option for parents who are unsure about the biological father or not on good terms. The court may ask for a DNA test from the alleged father and the child to provide proof of their relationship. From there, the judge may also determine custody, visitation hours, and child support if necessary.

Health Street provides reliable and accurate DNA testing services in Auburn, WA. Whether you need a paternity test for legal purposes or simply for peace of mind, Health Street offers a variety of testing options to meet your specific needs.
