News Events Relating to Substance Abuse in The Woodlands, TX

In May 2022, a 19-year-old man from The Woodlands area was arrested after law enforcement discovered he supplied two local teens with fentanyl, which resulted in their death. The suspect was charged with two counts of manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance that resulted in death or bodily injury. These charges come after newly passed Texas legislation now allows the state to press criminal charges on those who provide illegal narcotics that result in death.

According to reports, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office received a call involving two unconscious teens in a home on Stanwick Place in The Woodlands. Law enforcement found the teens, who were both Woodland High School seniors, deceased inside the home. Following an autopsy, law enforcement discovered the two died from a drug overdose caused by the fentanyl that was later connected back to the suspect.

During the event, Governor Abbott also presented the M-COPE foundation with a proclamation recognizing August 31 as International Overdose Awareness Day. M-COPE is a statewide advocacy group that assists various individuals who have been affected in some way by an opioid overdose.
