In June 2018, the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), Ad Council, and Truth Initiative launched a campaign aimed at reducing opioid misuse among youth and young adults. Noteworthy statistics reveal that each day, over 2,000 teens start abusing prescription drugs. An alarming 96% of drug-related suicide attempts involve these medications. Most teens obtain these drugs from family, friends, or their home medicine cabinets. One-third of these teens believe it's acceptable to use drugs not prescribed to them for issues like pain management. At least 43% of teens think prescription drugs are more accessible than illicit ones, with commonly abused drugs including pain relievers, stimulants, and tranquilizers. Every 12 minutes, someone in the U.S. loses their life to a drug overdose.
