Community Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Prattville

In November 2022, state leaders gathered in Prattville to discuss the state's opioid crisis. This meeting of the Alabama Opioid Overdose and Addiction Council occurred just days after a student died of an apparent opioid overdose at nearby Selma high school.

Members of the council are working together to help prevent and treat opioid addiction in Alabama. In addition, the Alabama Department of Mental Health is working to get more of the overdose-reversing drug naloxone into local schools. The council is also encouraging Alabama residents to order fentanyl test strips to test drugs before consuming them. At the same time, the state's 2024 Drug Threat Assessment Report lists fentanyl and other opioids as the number one substance use threat, followed by methamphetamine.
