Lakewood falls under Los Angeles County, which experienced a 1,280 percent growth in fentanyl-related deaths from 2016 to 2021. In 2021, at least 1,504 people died from fentanyl-related overdoses, fourteen times more than in 2016. From 2016 to 2020, there was also an increase in emergency department visits related to fentanyl. In 2016, the report showed 133 cases; in 2020, it was 542 cases, which means a 31 percent increase.

Fentanyl has become increasingly available and affordable, affecting people of every age in the area, including an alarming number of young people.

Police arrested man from Lakewood, CA, who was dealing heroin

A 34-year-old man from Lakewood was arrested because of heroin distribution. Police seized 1,800 doses of this narcotic at his home. They also found $2,300 cash. Police were investigating this man for two months, and they knew his residence was used for storing and distributing heroin. He was taken to jail, waiting for his detention hearing.
