Concord falls under Cabarrus County, which reported that in 2020, the emergency department visit overdose rate was 148 out of 100,000 residents. This means 320 people visited the emergency department just that year because of a drug overdose. In 2020, 66 people in Cabarrus County died from a drug overdose, and 47 involved illicit drugs. In the same year, more than 30 thousand people in Cabarrus county got an opioid prescription.
Investigation leads Concord police to charge 59 people with 140 drug charges
The Concord Police have been working on a drug investigation for a year aimed at people who distribute narcotics in the area. As a result, they charged 59 people with 140 drug charges. During the investigation, police seized 450 pounds of marijuana, more than 6 ounces of methamphetamine, almost six ounces of heroin and fentanyl, over 17 ounces of cocaine, nearly three ounces of MDMA, and 27 dosage units of different controlled substances. Police also seized 21 firearms and over one million dollars.
