Initiatives to Help Curb Substance Abuse in Mooresville, NC
The Drug and Alcohol Coalition of Iredell (DACI) was developed to raise awareness and educate the local community on the risk of substance abuse as well as to implement strategies to reduce substance misuse. The Coalition is composed of numerous community stakeholders, ranging from government professionals to children’s non-profits, that provide all Iredell County residents who have been impacted by drug and alcohol abuse with the necessary resources.
One huge effort the DACI initiative has adopted is the use of medication drop box locations across the county. From local sheriff’s offices to Mooresville pharmacies, residents can dispose of their unwanted prescription medications safely to help keep them out of the hands of adolescents and those at risk of abuse. The initiative also provides in-home safe disposal bags as a way to safely dispose of liquid, pill, and capsule medications from home.
