Safe Med LA is a prescription drug abuse coalition with the goal of reducing prescription drug-related deaths in Westchester and Los Angeles County. It includes health agencies, health plans, pharmacists, physicians, law enforcement, hospitals, community clinics, and educators.
The group provides community education to increase awareness of the risks associated with prescription drug abuse, safe use, storage, and disposal and offers resources for help with drug abuse. It also provides education and training to the criminal justice community to help them understand prescription drug abuse for better collaboration between law enforcement and public health.
Other priorities of Safe Med LA are treatment and overdose prevention, tracking and data exchange, safe drug disposal, identifying improper practices that threaten public health, and identifying community trends.
