Notable Events Relating to Substance Abuse in West Jordan, UT
In July 2019, West Jordan, UT resident John Aaron Favro was federally charged with the distribution of the synthetic opioid Fentanyl, which resulted in an overdose death. Following a wellness check, a woman was found deceased in her apartment on November 21, 2016. Upon investigation, blue pills labeled “A215,” signifying the prescription drug Oxycodone, were discovered in her bed. Toxicology reports showed the woman had high amounts of Fentanyl in her bloodstream, demonstrating that the pills were counterfeit and laced with the deadly synthetic opioid.
Salt Lake City DEA agents then spoke with the woman’s family, who informed agents of an individual she was recently in contact with. After tracking a phone number shown on the family’s cell plan records, the contact information was traced back to Favro. With these details, law enforcement opened a multi-year investigation on him during which confidential resources indicated he sold more than 10,000 Fentanyl-laced fake Oxycodone pills between 2016 and 2019.
