Parma, OH: Drug abuse trends
Parma falls under Cuyahoga County, which had 382 victims of overdoses in 2020. The most commonly abused drugs are opioids, especially fentanyl mixed with other substances. According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, Cuyahoga County has seen 1,499 more deaths involving fentanyl in the past five and half years than in the previous eleven years.
In 2021, the number of drug overdoses in Cuyahoga County was even higher, with at least 575 fatal overdoses. Fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, amphetamine, tramadol, THC, and oxycodone are among the commonly abused substances in the area.
In 2021, November was one of the worst months for Parma overdoses, when twelve people died in 48 hours because of a drug overdose. Generally, the county has witnessed the highest number of opioid-related fatalities during November. Parma had at least 75 overdose deaths this month.
Parma Police found 25 pounds of marijuana after traffic stop
In April 2022, a police officer stopped a driver who had a pending charge previously because of having a weapon under disability. The officer found 25 pounds of marijuana and was ready to arrest the driver, but the suspect ran from the scene. Other officers from the Parma Police Department helped them catch the suspect and take the man into custody. Parma Police believe that the drugs were worth about $100,000 on the streets.
