Opioid Deaths Decline in MA, But Not in Bristol County

In the first three months of 2020, opioid deaths declined in the state of Massachusetts. However, Bristol County has not escaped the opioid crisis. Here, opioid deaths increased significantly, from 220 to 260 between 2018 and 2019. This increase was the highest increase in the entire state.

A study conducted by the Boston Medical Center also found that the opioid problem in Massachusetts is actually much worse than officials originally thought. While earlier estimates showed approximately 1% of the state’s residents suffered from Opioid Abuse Disorder, this new study found that 4.6% of residents over the age of 11 have an opioid abuse problem. In Bristol County, 5.8% of residents are addicted to opioids.

Medical and recreational marijuana use are both legal in the state of Massachusetts. However, there are many important rules you need to follow. For example, only residents aged 21 and older can consume recreational marijuana in Massachusetts. It’s also illegal to consume marijuana in public and you must keep it in a closed container while you’re driving. In addition, you cannot mail marijuana or cross state lines with it.
