With the state of Pennsylvania holding some of the highest rates of deadly drug overdoses in the country, Governor Tom Wolf introduced the Centers of Excellence for Opioid Use Disorder (COE) in 2016. As a supporting solution to the growing overdose issue seen across Monroeville, Allegheny County, and the surrounding state, 45 centers including primary care practices, hospitals, and treatment providers were selected to operate as a COE.
With six locations in the Allegheny County area alone, these COEs offer numerous resources for those suffering from substance abuse disorders. Community-based management teams consisting of recovery specialists, physicians, and peer navigators also work with patients each step of the way to ensure they receive necessary services across all domains.
