News Events Relating to Substance Abuse in League City, TX

In September 2022, two League City residents were arrested following a months-long investigation by the Galveston County Organized Crime Task Force. In early September, a search warrant was executed at the 200 block of Highland Terrace in League City, where law enforcement discovered an expansive drug dealing operation inside a local home. Officers seized 260 grams of ecstasy, 65 grams of heroin, 24 grams of Xanax, 13 grams of fentanyl, and 6 grams of methamphetamine.

Galveston County law enforcement also discovered drug packaging materials as well as stolen firearms, including two rifles and a UZI submachine gun. Two of the four residents found inside the home were arrested and charged with manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance and felony possession of a firearm with the main suspect issued a bond set at $1.06 million.

Local Initiatives to Help Curb Substance Abuse in League City, TX

In Galveston County, when an individual faces non-violent criminal charges and is battling with drug or alcohol addiction, the county court system will offer the HOPE Drug Court Program as a way to better their lives and reduce future criminal and harmful actions. The program runs for 12 to 18 months and can be used to replace potential jail time if properly completed.

The HOPE Drug Court Program is broken down into three phases, beginning with Assessment and Orientation, then Treatment and Education, and finally Education and Transition. Over the course of these three phases, participants work to establish overall drug-free life goals and are provided the necessary resources to develop career skills and rebuild family and community connections. Such skills enable participants to better avoid ongoing criminal substance use concerns.
