DOT Oral Fluid Drug Testing
(Coming Soon!)
DOT-regulated employers have been waiting a long time for a simpler, more flexible testing option, and DOT oral fluid drug testing is almost here. Once two DOT-approved laboratories complete certification, you'll finally be able to use DOT oral fluid as a valid testing method for pre-employment, post-accident, random, and reasonable-suspicion screens.
This new option will bring major advantages: easier collections, fewer privacy concerns, a reduced risk of tampering, and a smoother experience for both employers and employees. Instead of relying solely on urine, the DOT will soon allow a fully compliant oral fluid drug test performed using a secure saliva collection device.
While we await final approval of certified DOT oral fluid testing labs, our team is preparing everything behind the scenes so you can seamlessly transition the moment DOT oral fluid testing becomes available!

About Our DOT Oral Testing
How DOT oral fluid testing will work once available
Our upcoming DOT panel will use a standardized oral fluid drug test collection device administered at our clinics. This non-invasive method, often referred to as oral swab drug testing, gathers saliva quickly and securely, making it easier than ever for employers to meet DOT requirements.
Once available, you'll be able to schedule a DOT oral drug testing appointment nationwide. Collection will be performed by trained professionals, and all oral fluid specimens will be sent to federally certified DOT oral fluid testing labs for processing.
DOT's oral fluid rules are designed to give employers more flexibility, reduce observed-collection concerns, and make the testing experience smoother. When fully launched, this option will offer the same compliance, reliability, and defensibility you expect from DOT-regulated testing.
When will DOT oral fluid testing become available?
DOT oral fluid testing will become available once two or more laboratories receive federal certification to process DOT oral fluid drug test specimens. The Department of Transportation has already finalized the oral fluid testing rule, which officially allows saliva-based drug testing as a compliant alternative to urine testing.
At this stage, the only remaining step is laboratory certification. Once the labs complete the approval process, DOT oral fluid testing can be fully implemented nationwide for pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion testing. Employers will not need to wait for additional rulemaking—availability will begin as soon as certification is granted, and testing can be scheduled immediately through approved providers.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an oral drug test?
An oral drug test is a saliva-based screen that collects oral fluid using a secure device instead of urine. For DOT, oral testing will soon become an approved method for meeting federal testing requirements.
When will DOT oral fluid drug testing be available?
It will become active once two HHS-certified laboratories receive approval. The rule is finalized, and the industry is now awaiting lab certification.
How will DOT oral fluid drug testing work?
DOT oral fluid drug testing will use a standardized saliva collection device handled by a trained professional at a certified clinic. The oral fluid sample will be shipped to one of the approved DOT oral fluid testing labs for processing, ensuring full DOT compliance.
What is the benefit of DOT oral fluid over traditional testing?
DOT oral fluid testing offers easier collections, eliminates restroom privacy concerns, reduces opportunities for tampering, and provides a smoother overall testing experience for employees. It also focuses on a shorter lookback window, making it especially useful for post-incident situations, reasonable suspicion testing, and other scenarios where recent use matters most.
What is an oral swab drug test?
An oral swab drug test collects saliva using an absorbent collection device, not a traditional cotton swab. The saliva samples can be used to detect drugs that were recently used, typically within the last 48 hours. This is the method DOT will soon allow for official testing.
Where can I get an oral drug test near me?
Once two labs have become certified and DOT authorizes oral-fluid collections, you'll be able to schedule an oral drug test at thousands of our clinics nationwide. We're fully prepared on our end and ready to launch the moment DOT gives the green light. We're just as excited as you are to offer this new option!
Where can I buy an oral drug test?
DOT testing must be performed through certified labs, so at-home kits cannot be used for compliance. However, when DOT launches this method, you'll be able to schedule testing through us. We have clinics everywhere, and you'll be able to easily find a location to get DOT oral drug testing done.
Will oral drug test results be as reliable as urine?
Yes. DOT requires that oral drug test results meet the same scientific standards as urine testing, and all processing must be done through certified laboratories.
Are DOT oral drug testing and non-DOT saliva drug testing the same thing?
Not exactly. One of the biggest differences is cutoff levels. DOT oral fluid tests use specific cutoff levels that are set by the federal government. These levels decide how much of a drug must be present before a test is reported as positive. Regular saliva drug tests are not required to follow these federal cutoff levels. Each lab or company can set its own limits, which means results can vary from one test to another.
So, while both tests use the same collection procedure, only DOT oral fluid testing follows the DOT's exact rules, labs, procedures, and standardized cutoff levels.
How should employers prepare now?
Begin updating your drug testing policies and drug testing program to include oral drug testing, train supervisors on what oral fluid saliva testing will look like, and stay connected with us so you can be notified the moment DOT oral fluid becomes fully available.
