The Opioid Epidemic in Wichita KS

The Opioid epidemic in and around Kansas is just that, an epidemic. Youth drug overdose rates more than quadrupled in a decade. The ease of access combined with the addictive properties of opioids is what helped contribute to this problem and it is why the problem is so hard to solve. In 2017, 14.45% of 12th graders took prescriptions drugs not prescribed to them. This is not only occuring in Kansas but across our Nation. Prevention programs such as education is a key step to slowing down or reversing this epidemic.

Economic Development Programs in Wichita KS

Many incentive programs in and around Wichita have been a part of the economic development policies over the years. The Idea with the incentive programs is to diversify the tax base, expand employment and the local economy, and to encourage capital investments. One example of an incentive are ‘Opportunity Zones’. Opportunity zones provide local citizens the chance to invest in their community to help solve problems such as population decline, crumbling infrastructures, and lack of jobs. In return for this investment the citizen would receive tax incentives.
