Community Efforts to Curb Drug Abuse in Waco, TX

In Waco, TX, individuals previously charged with drug offenses face a higher chance of repeat offenses if they fail to seek substance abuse treatment. To reduce the local recurrence of drug offenses, McLennan County developed the Drug Offender Education Program. This 15-hour course was designed to inform drug offenders of the dangers of substance abuse, help them identify personal drug patterns, and assist them with developing a personal action plan to reduce further offenses.

Some of the course topics in the program include drug/DWI laws, dynamics of drug use, cost of using and abuse, and the dangers of HIV infection. With this expansive focus, drug offenders gain a more thorough understanding of where further substance abuse and criminal offenses can lead them. This class is open to the public, but also includes many individuals who have been placed on probation for drug offenses.
