Prairieville, Louisiana - Drug Testing

Local Government Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Prairieville

Ascension Parish government and local law enforcement agencies are taking action to help address substance abuse issues in Prairieville and the surrounding area. For example, the Ascension Parish Sheriff's office recently held a Drug Take-Back Day, allowing the public to drop off unwanted, expired, or partially used prescription medications at designated locations. Events such as this help prevent potentially dangerous drugs from getting into the wrong hands.

The Ascension Counseling Center offers mental health and substance abuse treatments to local residents. This agency is supplemented by a parish property tax and operates on a sliding-scale basis with services starting at $5 for those who demonstrate need. The ability to access affordable treatment and counseling services is a key to minimizing the impact of illegal drug use among Prairieville residents.

Ascension Parish Drug Trafficking Bust Leads to 9 Arrests

In 2022, a federal grand jury indictment following an Ascension Parish-based investigation led to the arrest of nine men for firearm and drug trafficking offenses. The defendants, one of whom was from Prairieville, were charged with distributing large quantities of methamphetamine throughout the Middle District of Louisiana. The investigation was part of the ongoing federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Program, which was established in 1982 to mount a comprehensive attack against drug traffickers.
