According to the Indiana State Epidemiological Outcomes Workgroup, there were 107 alcohol-related auto accidents in Hendricks County in 2019 and two of them were fatal.

In 2019, 247 people in Hendricks County received treatment for marijuana use, and 121 of them were found to be dependent on marijuana. A total of 37 people in Hendricks County received treatment for prescription opioid dependency in 2019, 159 for heroin misuse, and 126 for heroin dependency.

Although not as common as opioids, cocaine and methamphetamine also played a role in drug use and treatment in Hendricks County in 2019. A total of 39 people received treatment for cocaine use, including 11 for cocaine dependency. More than 160 people in Hendricks County received treatment for methamphetamine use in 2019.

Also in 2019, 26 people in Hendricks County lost their lives from drug overdoses, according to the Indiana Department of Health. This represents a 4% increase over 2018 overdose deaths.

Experts Say ...

In October 2020, Douglas Huntsinger, Indiana's executive director for drug prevention, treatment and enforcement told WISH TV's reporter David Williams, "We've seen an increase in overdose events in our emergency departments and also in emergency medical services administering naloxone in overdose events."

Local Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Plainfield

The Hendricks County Health Partnership provides a directory of services for people struggling with substance misuse, dependency, and addiction. Programs available in Plainfield include CleanSlate, a medication-assisted and medical model treatment program for opioid and alcohol use disorders. Fairbanks in Plainfield, located at 6100 Clarks Creek Rd. Suite 102, is a not-for-profit treatment program for men, women, and adolescents.

The Hamilton Center opened a nearly 6,000 square foot clinic in Plainfield in 2020. The clinic provides medication-assisted treatment for opioids and other prescription drugs, case management, and group and individual therapy.
