Notable Historical Events Related to Drug Use in Pennsauken, NJ

In 2023, two Pennsauken residents faced drug possession and distribution charges following an investigation that began in the summer of 2022. The investigation led to search warrants for a residence at the 7000 block of Githens Avenue, Bodega 856 on Westfield Avenue, and a vehicle. Authorities seized a loaded Glock handgun with a high-capacity magazine, about $20,000, and three pounds of marijuana. The 29-year-old man and 28-year-old woman, both from Pennsauken, faced multiple charges, including drug possession and distribution charges.

Government Efforts to Address Drug Problems in Pennsauken, NJ

Pennsauken residents have access to naloxone, a medication used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Naloxone, also known as Narcan, can be found at participating pharmacies throughout the state, including 45 pharmacies in Camden County. With an anonymity guarantee, opioid users can obtain naloxone for themselves without the stigma that would normally keep them from seeking treatment. Pennsauken residents can find naloxone at the Rite Aids located at 4902 Westfield Ave and 7835 Maple Ave in Pennsauken. "We have and will continue to take every step available to us until this epidemic is eradicated," said Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. "Naloxone is a lifesaving drug and making it more widely and easily accessible will most certainly make an impact on the overdose crisis here in New Jersey." Camden County urges residents with substance use disorder to call the Office of Mental Health and Addiction at (856) 374-6361.
