This collaborative effort is known as the H.O.P.E. initiative. When police officers make arrests, they connect individuals to the services and support that they need.
In 2019, New Britain launched a new opioid task force that can analyze data and offer Naloxone training workshops. The task force's primary objective is to achieve a 50 percent reduction in opioid-related fatalities by the year 2023. However, recent data still shows an upward trend in Connecticut for opioid overdoses. In 2021, overdose deaths increased by 11 percent compared to 2020.

Authorities sentence New Britain man to 10 years for trafficking fentanyl
In 2019, the DEA's Hartford Task Force started investigating a Mexican drug trafficking organization that was distributing heroin and fentanyl to Connecticut. Between August and October 2019, over $200,000 was seized by the investigators from the drug trafficking organization the New Britain man was a part of. He and his partner used multiple locations to store and process the drugs. In 2020, a man and three associates were arrested after investigators found and seized numerous bags of fentanyl in his apartment.
