In February 2023, the U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of Missouri announced an indictment against a Joplin area resident in relation to a previous drug seizure that resulted in a high-speed pursuit. According to reports, agents with the Ozark Drug Enforcement Team first discovered over 600 grams of fentanyl and numerous firearms in the home of the Joplin man after executing a search warrant.
After the discovery, law enforcement attempted to conduct a traffic stop and arrest the Joplin man. The suspect fled law enforcement, resulting in a high-speed pursuit that ended in officers having to use a tire deflation device and eventually locating the suspect in a nearby shed using a K-9 unit. The Joplin resident has now been charged with felony possession of firearms as well as possession of narcotics.
