Fond Du Lac County had some of the highest overdose rates in the state, with an estimated 55 to 72 opioid-related deaths per 100k residents, during the same time period.
In 2022, the Department of Health Services (DHS) issued a public health advisory about the dangers of fentanyl, indicating that 91% of the overdose deaths throughout the state involved synthetic opioids, primarily fentanyl. Sadly, between 2019 and 2021, the number of fentanyl-related deaths in Wisconsin skyrocketed by 97%.

Ten people were arrested and charged with their connection to the ring, which is alleged to have distributed and delivered over 100 pounds of meth in the area in 2022 alone. DA Eric Toney said nearly 280 grams of fentanyl and 3.25 pounds of methamphetamine were seized during the investigation, noting that the volume of fentanyl was "enough to kill every resident of Fond du Lac County."
