Under the recent grant funding, the Family Treatment Court Program also plans to develop parenting and life skill classes that can be used by participants and their families as wellness services, including dental assessments, vision check-ups, and STD/HIV. By partnering these wellness resources with the current drug treatment program, officials hope to better equip offenders with the resources they need to maintain sobriety and live a healthy and productive life.

Laws and Regulations Relating to Substance Abuse in Flowood, MS

In March 2023, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves passed House Bill 722, which now decriminalizes materials that can be used to test if illegal substances are laced with fentanyl. Fentanyl is an extremely powerful synthetic opioid often found in various street drugs. It is responsible for the majority of drug overdose deaths in not only Mississippi but the entire country.

The passing of House Bill 722 comes in part of a statewide harm reduction strategy that works to provide products that can be used to prevent deadly overdoses to drug users. Such products include fentanyl test strips that can be dipped into drugs to quickly determine if fentanyl is present. Under previous law, these test strips were considered a type of drug paraphernalia that could result in criminal charges if found in possession of them.
